Course Overview
Digital film making is about more than just using digital cameras and this intensive 2 week course takes you through all of the stages required to create a professional looking film. Digital technology has lowered the cost of equipment and given an unprecedented level of control to any would be film maker. This course will take you from script to finished DVD using digital tools and workflows which can be applied to any project.
The first few days will be spent familiarising you with the necessary tools and skills - by day 3 you’ll be working on a real life production, the best environment to put your skills to the test.
Pre-Production
You will start the course with a simple supplied script, allowing you to focus on the important process of film making itself. We will then go through the fundamentals of script analysis, which can significantly improve time management and performance in any role either on or off set. Digital sound recording, stills photography and editing will be employed to create pre-visualisations that can help bring down costs and improve your final results.
Production
Using low cost digital cameras, we will show you how to create professional results using lighting, framing and depth of field techniques. The buzzword for digital cinema is filmic and we will show you how to achieve filmic images that will take your production to a new level. We will also concentrate on sound recording, taking you through the techniques to capture the best sound possible on-set to avoid costly ADR sessions.
Post-Production
Using the industry standard Avid Media Composer we will cover the fundamental techniques of editing both montage and dialogue scenes, these same skills could be applied to any editing software. Colour correction and grading will also be covered at this stage, showing you how to fix problem shots without the cost of a re-shoot and how to give your footage a distinctive look. Titles and credits will then be added to your finished film which will be ready to export as DVD or High Definition file for the Web
