From Cobbles To Coaching - Coronation Street Credits DOP Joins Futureworks

One of the men behind the legendary opening credits of Coronation Street is joining Manchester media school Futureworks – and helping students create a TV-style drama all of their own.

Martin Kelly, of Rochdale, was the director of photography for the current version of the Coronation Street ‘cobbled streets’ opening sequence, supporting director Mark Nuttal (his sons are the two boys running under the bridge!). His career also boasts a range of high profile documentaries, children’s animations and international films, with greats such as Postman Pat, Roary the Racing Car, World in Action and Hackers, starring Angelina Jolie, sitting alongside each other in his credits.

At Futureworks, Martin will be providing expertise and training for the students as director of photography in the Film and TV department. He will be a regular lecturer on all courses within the department and is also guiding the students through the creation and direction of a 15 minute programme. Filmed on location in Manchester and at Futureworks itself, the end result will be used as part of the students’ assessments.
