From Post-Production to Post Mortem!

Futureworks student Thom Powell has posted a huge success with the award-winning Body Worlds exhibition.

Thom, a student on the Audio Engineering & Post Production Diploma Course, has composed the music for the promotional video for the record-breaking exhibition, which has sold more than 100,000 tickets for its current showing at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Manchester.

The video, featuring Thom's music, has been used as part of the promotional media campaign for the show, and is played to visitors as they enter the MOSI.

"Obviously i'm very pleased to get this kind of exposure", says Thom, "I have had my music synched to picture before (for TV adverts), but this is a high profile show and so its a very positive step. I use a range of tools for composition but for this i focused on using Pro Tools, combined with some of the Native Instruments plugins".

Asked about how the course had helped him so far, he continued: "The course has exceeded all my expectations - which were very high anyway!I have been producing and releasing music for a few years, but i wanted to develop my sound engineering skills and learn about audio post production".

"Post-production is major area of focus for me, and is potentially a very rewarding avenue to go down as an audio specialist. The course and the facilities here at Futureworks are exceptional, the support available is excellent, and the tutors are superb. Its ideal an ideal route for me."

Thom has now completed a series of commercial projects while on the course. He recently took charge of the audio content for '230 miles of love' an innovative comedy project to be streamed to motorway users via Sat-Nav. Not content with simply recording, editing and mixing the audio for the project, Thom took on the role of foley artist and sound designer, as well as research into the audio formats rquired for GPS.

Says Thom:"They walked in with the concept, the script and the actors, and walked out with the finished product".

Not content with confining himself to the studio, Thom, who has had production success with his break-core releases under the moniker 'Hoonboy', is set to embark on a tour of Russia this summer - this time as a DJ.

Congratulations Thom - keep up the good work.
