Student Success: Tom Secures Job at Sumners
Futureworks student Tom Bohan has landed a training position with Sumners, the prestigious post-production house in Manchester.
Sumners is the largest single site post production house outside the M25, offering the complete range of services for Broadcast Video production under one roof. Sumners are famous for their post work on programmes such as, Dragons' Den (BBC Manchester), Drop Dead Gorgeous (Hat Trick), Mastermind (BBC Manchester), Honey We're Killing The Kids (BBC Manchester) and many more.
Tom joined the TV & Film Production course at Futureworks in September 2007, having previously completed a media degree.
Said Tom "Having completed my degree in 2006, I tried for a while to break into the post production industry. It became obvious after a while that I needed to gain more specific skills, which is when I found out about the course at Futureworks."
"The skills I learnt proved their worth almost immediately, and I managed to secure a work placement with the BBC based on the Avid editing skills i developed at Futureworks. It was shortly afterwards I heard about the opening at Sumners, and I was fortunate enough to be given a chance. Because the course is part-time, I can work full-time at Sumners and still manage to study, which is ideal."
“After serving my time on the (infamous) cake trolley, my duties have now extended to more technical tasks. The facility has 4 audio dubbing theatres, 40 editing suites, a colour grading suite and a graphics suite, so there are a variety of different areas to progress into.”
“It is a long process but it is definitely a rewarding one, as I’m building a fantastic career in an industry that I find fascinating.”"
Not content with juggling a full-time job and an intensive course, Tom is also working on a music video project with fellow student Andy McKee. The video, for rock band "Hollow Earth Project", will air on both Kerrang and Scuzz. You'll be able read full details here when the project is completed.
